She went home, feeling safe and warm. But the next day, she was back out in the cold again, playing with her matches. She didn't realize how cold it was getting and how close she was to getting lost in the snow.
Just as she was about to give up and head home, she lit a match and saw a little light in the distance. It was a house with a warm fire and people inside. She ran to the door and knocked. They opened the door and saw the little girl, all wet and cold, holding her matches. They were kind and invited her in, where she warmed up and had a good meal.
From then on, she always played with matches, but never again without realizing how cold and dangerous it could be outside.
