「Such as」用於引導定語從句，舉例說明某一類事物中的某一個或某幾個具體例子，其用法相當於「like」或「for example」。例如：
「I like sports such as swimming, playing basketball, and jogging.」（我喜歡運動，如游泳、打籃球和跑步。）
「There are many kinds of vegetables, such as potatoes and onions, on sale.」（許多種蔬菜，例如土豆和洋蔥，都在打折出售。）
此外，「such as」也用於「such…as to do sth」結構中，表示程度或結果，其中的「such」是代詞，「as to do sth」引出的結構作程度狀語或結果狀語。例如：
「It was such a loud noise as to wake everybody in the house.」（聲音很大，屋裡的所有人都被吵醒了。）
