故事標題:The Little Match Girl
Once upon a time, there was a little girl who loved to play outside on winter nights. She would light matches and watch the dancing flames. One night, she was out in the cold again, with only a few matches in her pocket. She lit one and watched the flame dance, then lit another and watched again. Suddenly, the flame went out, and she was left with only one match.
As she stood there, shivering in the cold, she saw a homeless old man shuffling by. She handed him the last match, hoping it might provide some warmth. He struck the match and then, for a brief moment, they both saw a small flame dance. It was beautiful and warmed them both.
Then, with a flick of his wrist, he extinguished the flame and said, "Such a beautiful thing, yet so fleeting." He gave her a small piece of coal, "You might be able to start a fire with this," he said. Then he shuffled away into the night.
The little girl was now warmer and felt safe in the shelter of the flame. She gathered up the coal and tried to start a fire, but it was difficult in the cold, damp air. Finally, she lit a stick of wood and managed to create a small fire. She sat by it, feeling the warmth and comfort of the fire.
As she sat there, she thought about how lucky she was to have met the old man that night. She knew that she had been blessed with a kind soul and that she would always remember that night.
That was the Little Match Girl's story. It may be short, but it is full of hope and warmth.
