英文寓言短篇故事:The Farmer and the Snake
Once upon a time, there was a farmer who lived on a farm in the countryside. One day, he found a snake trying to crawl into his house. The farmer, not wanting the snake to harm his family, decided to release it back into the wild.
As he was about to do so, the snake turned around and looked at him with its yellow eyes. Then it spoke, “Thank you for your kindness, farmer. You have saved my life. In return, I will grant you a wish from my magic power.”
The farmer was amazed by the snake’s words and immediately thought of a way to use this opportunity. “I wish for more land to grow crops on,” he said. The farmer’s eyes lit up as he imagined all the crops he could grow with more land.
The snake nodded and granted his wish. The farmer then left the house, happy with his newfound land. However, he soon realized that the land was not as fertile as he had hoped. It was full of rocks and other obstacles that made it difficult to cultivate.
Days passed and the farmer regretted his wish. He realized that his greed had led him to make a mistake. He wished he had accepted the snake’s offer and let it go, rather than demanding more land.
This story teaches us that we should be grateful for what we have and not be greedy for more. We should learn to appreciate what we have and not take it for granted. Otherwise, we may end up regretting our decisions in the future.
